Instructors
During the 1980’s, Mr. Cormier competed in regional and national martial arts tournaments throughout the Northeast and either won or placed in the top four in all of his events.
In 1987, Mr. Cormier opened this dojo and has been the chief instructor ever since. Mr. Cormier has taught hundreds of children and adults in his karate and jujitsu programs and has promoted hundreds of black belts.
Over the years he has given many self-defense seminars and demonstrations to non-profit organizations such as the Boy and Girl Scouts, church organizations, town fund raising events, women’s groups, business groups and adult education classes.
He has been a guest instructor and assistant guest instructor at other martial arts schools throughout New England. In addition, he has been welcomed by police departments for advanced self-defense training and weapons tactics.
March 1, 2009: Certified as a Head Instructor and recognized as a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu by Soke Menkyo Kaiden-Shihan San Dai Kichu Michael LaMonica.
December 20, 2005: Promoted to 4th degree black belt and certified instructor in Yoshitsune Jujitsu by Master Larry Garron.
October 16, 2004: Inducted into the WMAF Hall of Fame.
April 1, 2003: Promoted to 3rd degree black belt in Hakkoryu Jujitsu by Master Larry Garron and certified as such by the Hakkoryu Jujitsu Headquarters in Japan.
January 15, 2002: Elected to the Executive Board of the World Martial Arts Federation.
March 24, 2000: Inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame as a “Master Instructor of the Year”.
November 19, 1999: Promoted to 7th degree black belt in Okinawan Goju ryu karate and awarded the title of Shihan (Master) by Master Larry Garron.
Serving the Holliston, Hopkinton, Ashland, Milford, Medway, Millis, Medfield, Sherborn, Bellingham and Hopedale Massachusetts areas.
Sensei Williams has been training here since January 9, 2001. He is the assistant instructor in our Jujitsu programs. He came to us after 2 years of intensive training in Nihon Jujitsu in Japan under 10th Dan (Hanshi) Sensei Shizuya Sato. Sensei Williams has been an excellent instructor here for several years and is highly respected for his knowledge, skills, his sense of humor and the true joy he brings to teaching others.
He is a graduate of Stanford University and his profession is software development.

- Brown Belt Nihon Jujitsu

Sensei Layman began his judo training with his wife, Marylou, in the 1960’s at the Bay State Judo Club under Sensei’s Sidman and Ollie. During the 60’s and 70’s he and Marylou competed in many local and regional judo tournaments. In the mid 70’s he twice won the Open Class Tri-State Judo Championships.
He also competed in the 1976 Judo National Championships. He and Marylou taught junior competitors in the 1970’s. After a long hiatus due to job and family time constraints, he re-entered judo in 1995 as an instructor at the Newton Judo Club. He has been teaching there along with Sensei’s Ron Viazaltene and Joe Smith part time ever since. He has also trained with renowned judo Sensei, George Harris.
Sensei Layman is a referee at local and regional tournaments every month and gives judo seminars to other martial arts schools. He is truly an inspiration to his students and peers alike.
